AWD & 4WD towing: flatbed only to protect your drivetrain
All-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive vehicles are everywhere in Hamilton, Ancaster, Dundas and Stoney Creek, and for good reason, but they need special care when towed. Because their wheels are linked through the transfer case and differentials, towing an AWD or 4WD vehicle with any wheels turning forces the driveline to spin. That can overheat and damage expensive components, a repair that costs far more than the tow itself.
Hamilton Towing moves every all-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive vehicle on a flatbed, with all four wheels completely off the ground. From a Subaru Outback or Audi quattro to a lifted 4x4 pickup or a Jeep, we strap at the correct manufacturer points and keep your drivetrain, and your warranty, fully protected from pickup to drop-off.

Flatbed-Only for AWD
We never wheel-lift an all-wheel-drive vehicle. Every AWD car and 4x4 truck rides fully supported on the flatbed, all four wheels off the ground, which is the only method that fully protects the driveline.

Subaru, Audi, Jeep & 4x4 Trucks
From a Subaru or Audi quattro to a lifted 4x4, a Jeep Wrangler or a 4WD SUV like a 4Runner or RAV4, we carry the correct straps and clearance and secure your vehicle at the right points.

Damage-Free, Warranty-Safe
Wheels-down towing can destroy a transfer case or transmission. Our flatbed method keeps every wheel stationary, so there is no driveline wear, no added miles, and no risk to your manufacturer warranty.

AWD & 4WD TOWING FAQ
Does AWD towing cost more than a regular tow?
No. AWD and 4WD flatbed towing is priced like any other flatbed job, on distance and any recovery. We quote it upfront with no hidden fees.
Why does my AWD car need a flatbed tow?
AWD links all four wheels through the drivetrain with no true neutral. Towing with wheels turning can damage the transfer case and transmission, so a flatbed is the only fully safe method.
Can you tow a 4x4 truck or Jeep on a flatbed?
Yes. We carry flatbeds sized for 4x4 trucks, Jeeps and 4WD SUVs and secure them at the correct points.
Is it ever safe to tow AWD with the wheels down?
Only with dollies under the remaining wheels as a last resort. A flatbed is always the safest choice and our default for every all-wheel-drive vehicle.
Which AWD vehicles do you tow?
All makes, including Subaru, Audi quattro, BMW xDrive, Mercedes 4MATIC, Toyota 4Runner and RAV4, Honda CR-V, Jeep and full-size 4x4 trucks.
Will wheels-down towing really damage my AWD vehicle?
It can. A turning wheel spins the driveline and can overheat and damage the transfer case and differentials, an expensive repair that a flatbed tow completely avoids.
Do you offer 24/7 AWD flatbed towing?
Yes. Flatbed AWD and 4WD towing runs around the clock across Hamilton, Ancaster, Dundas and Stoney Creek.
Can you tow a lifted or modified 4x4?
Yes. We carry the correct straps and clearance for lifted trucks, oversized tires and modified suspensions.
How much does AWD towing cost in Hamilton?
It depends on distance and any recovery. We give an upfront estimate before dispatch with no hidden fees.
